I have been visiting MV/Oak Bluffs for the last 5 years. I always stay @ the Surfside hotel, which is directly across the street from the ferry. This area is so incredibly beautiful and would highly recommend it to anyone and have! Taking your owncar is by far the best deal, since you can take in all the sites as you please. Public transportation is available, but taking your own vehicle is the only way to go. Call the MV Ferry for details and reservation info. Oak Bluffs is not a dry town, night clubs and restaurants are incredible. Gay Head is one of the most beautiful natural areas I have ever seen. I love MV because it is so non-commercialized and the island itself feels like a tropical getaway during the summer months. You must see it to appreciate all it has to offer!
Pros: Beautiful, The ocean, shopping!
Cons: can become crowded, sometimes pricey, few public restrooms

We went by boat and did not like being in the center of town, which is where the marina is. Very commercial and good for those with small kids and teenagers. Reminded me of Coney Island 20 years ago.
Pros: inexpensive, can walk everywhere, quaint
Cons: not too clean, tacky, food of poor quality
