Editorial Review for Colonial Inn – by Ben Williams
The Scene
If you've come to get away from it all, this is not the place to be. But if you've come to shop, wine and dine, it's hard to find a more central spot. Just a couple of blocks from the harbor, the Colonial Inn is located in the heart of Edgartown's restaurants, seafood shacks, gift stores--and crowds of tourists. True to its name, the hotel features white columns and a veranda, but the atmosphere is more modern than antique.
The Details
The rooms range from tiny to medium-size. A good number come with spacious private decks offering great harbor views; there's also a common deck on the top floor. Air-conditioning and cable TV are standard; some rooms have fireplaces, canopy beds, VCRs and kitchen facilities. The on-site salon and spa offer quality massages and cuts, and there's a common fitness room. Complimentary continental breakfast is served daily.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoIf you want to come for a summer weekend, expect a three-day minimum stay; shorter periods are available in the week and during the off-season.

Colonial Inn's goal is to get you to make them "home" when you visit the Vineyard and they've definitely won me. The staff was very kind and friendly (esp. Joann). The Inn is cozy and quaint and is a 1 block from the harbor. Its nestled in the heart of Edgartown with a nogalstic Victorian feel. The Inn is close to "The Newes" pub which offers a limited menu with healthy heapings of food and is directly across from the Inn. There's the "Wharf" pub which is 1 block away. It offers a more lengthy menu with traditional portions of food. Looking for a restaurant atmosphere? Try "David Ryans", with a more costly menu, the atmosphere is more centered for couples and families. If you're not interested in paying for a costly cab ride you can take the bus. There is a bus stop 2 blocks away from the Inn.
Pros: Location, Parking, Price
Cons: No elevator

Location is key for the Colonial - located only one block from the water and smack dab in the middle of Edgartown, this inn provides great views. The rooms are rather small - so I would suggest getting a room with a balcony - service was very friendly - but organization at the front desk was little under par. Don't worry - on MV people don't lock their doors, bikes and they leave their keys in the ignition. Oh ask for more blankets - you get plenty of pillow (8) but only 1 real blanket.
Pros: Location, Parking, Views
Cons: Food, Amenities
